Dr. Barbara Sydney Stein was an accomplished feline practitioner who made many substantial contributions to veterinary medicine.

Dr. Stein was a teacher, a mentor, a consultant, and an accomplished surgeon, diagnostician, researcher, author and public speaker. She was past president of the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP), the American Animal Hospital Association's (AAHA) practitioner of the year and a delegate to the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) amongst other national honors. 

Dr. Stein was knowledgeable about exotic cats and served as a consultant to Brookfield and Lincoln Park zoos. She was also a pianist and an accomplished photographer as evidenced by the pictures in this collection. 

Dr. Stein passed away in September of 1999 after a prolonged illness. Although the veterinary profession is poorer for her loss, her talents live on in the photographs in this collection. Even after her death Dr. Stein continues to teach.
